Every day, we hear news about relationships ending in disaster. Even famous celebrity couples who were once deeply in love and married for decades go their separate ways. It is difficult to understand what goes wrong after so many years of togetherness and why couples suddenly decide to put a full stop to their love story.
Unfortunately, this isn’t just happening on television. It is happening to common people all around us.
While I am not a therapist or a relationship expert, I believe that ego and a lack of respect are the main drivers behind most failed relationships. Today, we often disguise our ego under the label of ‘self-respect.’ Decisions are made in fleeting moments of anger and frustration, completely ignoring the future of our loved ones.
It is crucial to remember that the way we behave in front of our children directly shapes their behavior as adults. A failed relationship doesn’t just affect two individuals; it ripples across two families and can impact generations.
Decisions made in the heat of the moment are almost always regretted later.
Ego vs Compromise
Some people choose to endure a relationship despite massive differences, while others walk away thinking only of themselves. I wouldn’t call either side entirely selfless or selfish but everyone simply operates from their own perspective on life.
However, no matter how monumental a conflict feels, direct communication is the only real solvent. Talk directly. Find a solution that benefits everyone involved. No one should compromise for others; everyone should compromise for themselves. Look closely at your life and try to pinpoint where you may have gone wrong. Relationships turn into disasters not because of one person, but because of two, and the echo chamber of the people around them.
Take a moment out of your busy schedule today and ask yourself: Have you done any relationship disaster management for yourself or your loved ones?
Don’t deceive yourself. To find your true self, you need to remain completely open-hearted and open-minded. Every person carries two kinds of qualities: one that lifts them higher, and one that pulls them down. You have to decide which path to walk.
Find your own true self and manage your connections before choosing to be selfless or selfish. Lead a happy life and leave positive marks for the next generation, so you don’t regret anything in your old age.
Let us begin each day with a cheerful outlook and a smile. Let us try to live in peace before we rest in peace.
